Discovered that dogs "predict" food. Bells making dogs salivate won him a Nobel Prize.

Methodology

Original Goal: Digestion research (won 1904 Nobel) Discovery: • Dogs salivated before food arrived (at footsteps) ️ Apparatus: • Tube in cheek to measure saliva Conditioning: • Metronome → Meat powder (Repeated) • Test: Metronome only → Saliva?

Findings

Results: • Before: Metronome → 0 drops • After: Metronome → Salivation Concepts: • Extinction: Sound without food → Stops • Generalization: Similar sounds work • Discrimination: Only specific sound works
