Milgram Experiment

How ordinary people can commit evil acts

Conducted by Stanley Milgram at Yale in 1961. Participants were told to deliver electric shocks to a "learner" (an actor) for every wrong answer. The shocks went up to a fatal 450V. Result: 65% of participants delivered the maximum shock simply because an authority figure in a white coat told them to "please continue." This experiment demonstrated the terrifying power of obedience to authority.
